Dynamically generate DHS and DOD symbols that comply with 2525B and 2525C military standards for any mapping client with Symbology Server™.
The ObjectFX® Symbology Server™ is a scalable web service that dynamically generates military and homeland security symbols. These symbols can be used by any client including Google Earth, Google Maps, ESRI, NASA World Wind and more.
Maps can rapidly communicate information about where objects are located and how objects interact. Dynamically changing the symbols that represent these real-world objects provides a way to convey object status and state. Dynamic symbols add a powerful dimension for displaying situational awareness of operational events, allowing users and operators to quickly identify which objects are important.
For example, dynamic symbols can be used to communicate information such as:
- Is an object moving?
- Which direction is an object moving?
- What is the readiness status of that object?
- Does the symbol represent one object or many?
The Symbology Server™ extends the robust capabilities of the ObjectFX® Symbology Module™ to the power of a web service that can be used with any mapping client or application.
Web Service for MIL-STD 2525 and DHS Symbology
The ObjectFX® Symbology Server™ supports standardized symbology sets, such as defined by MIL-STD 2525 and Department of Homeland Security. These symbols are provided as a web service, allowing any network-connected client to request symbols and integrate them with their display. For example, a Google Earth client can specify MIL-STD 2525B or 2525C symbols for icons and automatically access the proper symbols through the ObjectFX® Symbology Server™. This same technique can be applied to other mapping and imagery clients including ESRI ArcGIS, Google Maps, NASA World Wind, and more.
Thick Clients and Web Clients
Because symbols are requested using a web service, the ObjectFX® Symbology Service™ can integrate with any type of client through an HTTP request. In standalone solutions and disconnected field applications, the Symbology Service™ can be deployed on the local machine to integrate symbols directly with the client.
Generate Symbols Dynamically
The web service is highly scalable while at the same time capable of satisfying unique symbol requests. The Symbology Server™ does not simply return static, predefined images from a disk-based library. Instead, symbols are drawn as required. This allows for unlimited symbol sizing and a choice of PNG, GIF, or JPEG formats.
